Steps to Remove Norton Toolbar from Different Web Browsers

Norton toolbar was launched and developed by the makers of Norton i.e. Symantec in order to improve cybersecurity. Norton toolbar is an app which makes the use of data encryption along with anti-phishing protection services for defending the computer systems against malware which can infect the computer via the Internet. Even though this application is extremely useful, the user may at times be compelled to remove it from their computer. Users have to uninstall it if it conflicts with other software and programs. Some of the common issues with Norton Toolbar are:


Incompatibility with other installed application on the computer system.

Conflict with the installation of certain software.

Compatibility issues with operating system updates.

Steps to Remove Norton Toolbar in Internet Explorer:

In order to remove Norton toolbar from your Internet Explorer, perform the below-mentioned steps:


Double click on the Internet Explorer icon on your desktop. Wait for the Internet Explorer window to launch.

Go to the Tools

From the menu, choose Manage Add-ons and click on it.

A list of installed Add-ons will appear towards the right side of the Manage Add-ons drop box. Locate the name of Norton Add-on from the list. Usually, the name of Norton toolbar add-on is Norton.dll

Go to Start.

In the search box, key in Run and hit enter.

Write down the “regsvr32 /u c:\Program Files\Symantec\norton.dll” command in the pop-up box and hit enter.

Locate the Norton icon in your computer system tray. Click on it and wait for it to launch.

Go to settings.

Head to the box next to Phishing Protection and uncheck it.

Restart your computer system.

Steps to remove Norton Toolbar in Mozilla Firefox:

Double click on the Mozilla Firefox icon on your computer desktop. Let the browser launch in a corresponding window.

Go to the Firefox menu in the web browser.

Click on the “Tools” menu

Go to Add-ons.

Click on Extensions.

Select the Norton Toolbar from the list.

Click on the Uninstall

Restart the Mozilla Firefox web browser.

If the Uninstall button is disabled or locked by Mozilla Firefox due to security purpose, you will be required to restart Windows in Safe Mode and then perform the steps mentioned above to uninstall Norton toolbar.


Here are the steps to restart Windows in Safe Mode

Close all the running windows and apps.

Click on Start.

Select Restart.

When the Window is reloading, press and hold the F8 key.

In the Advanced windows Boot Options menu, click on Safe Mode

Hit enter to start Windows in Safe Mode.

Steps to remove older versions of Norton Toolbar From Mozilla Firefox:

If you are using an older Norton Toolbar version such as Norton Toolbar 360 2.0, perform the below-mentioned steps to uninstall the Norton Toolbar:


Close all the running Firefox windows.

Go to C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\components

Find dll and click on it.

Click on Rename.

Rename the particular file to dll.old

Double click on Notepad to open it.

Go to the file menu.

Click on Save.

Enter dll in the box for the file name.

Save this file in this location: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\components

Click on save.

Restart the computer system.

Steps to remove Norton Toolbar in Google Chrome:

Double click on Chrome icon to open it.

On the top right-hand corner of Chrome browser, click on the Chrome menu which is represented by three horizontal lines.

Click on Tools from the drop-down menu.

Go to Extensions.

You will be redirected to a page.

Uncheck the Enabled box in the Norton Identity Protection entry in order to disable the Norton toolbar.

Restart the Google Chrome browser.
